Great Day with Katelyn Walker, Former Drafting-CAD Student
Katelyn Walker, former Drafting +3D Design student returned to the Career Center to speak with the current crop of students aspiring to become architects and engineers.
Katelyn spoke with students about her education and work experiences since graduating Manteno High School in 2011. Katelyn attended SIU Carbondale where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Architecture. SIU Carbondale's program is highly regarded in the architectural realm.
ASSA ABLOY is a Swedish firm which originally started making locks. As they grew over the years, they acquired other companies and grew into an international leader in a variety of manufacturing. They hired Katelyn in 2015. She remains a member of their team yet today and says she loves her job.
Katelyn, being a recent KACC Drafting Student, had no difficulty relating to students, who were very engaged and asking lots of questions. She explained how she is able to utilize her architectural background helping other project architects with ASSA ABLOY's doors, frames, and hardware in all of the proper applications. Her knowledge is used to help architects insure their buildings are safe (according to architectural codes), secure, and accessible.
Thanks Katelyn for coming to share your knowledge and experience with our students. Come back anytime.
