What is a Career Services Department you ask?

Kankakee Area Career Center continues to strive to do everything possible to ensure student success.  Our new Career Services Department is yet another fine example of those efforts.

Headed by Ms. Crystal Pena, Career School Counselor, the Career Services Department will provide both career guidance and counseling. Mr. Robert de Oliveira, Melinda Hogan and Ms. Krystal Smith will work in concert with Ms. Pena to fulfill this vision.

KACC's career guidance and counseling program is a comprehensive developmental program designed to assist our students making and implementing informed educational and occupational choices.  The team will interact with students helping them realize their competencies, and explore educational and occupational opportunities to fine tune their career planning.

This type of programming will help students acquire the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to identify options, explore alternatives and succeed in society.  Students will be better prepared for the changing workplace of the 21st century by:

  • teaching labor market changes and complexity of the workplace
  • broadening knowledge, skills and abilities
  • improve decision-making skills
  • increasing self esteem and motivation
  • building interpersonal effectiveness
  • maximizing career opportunities
  • improving employment marketability and opportunities
  • promoting effective job placement
  • strengthening employer relations.

Everyone benefits!  Integrating academic and vocational education is the essence of Career and Technical Education (CTE).  CTE, bolstered by career counseling services, students will be better prepared to further their education, whether that be a 2 or 4-year college, trade school, military or right into the world of work.

We look forward to watching this department continue to develop as they assist students to make great strides in their overall development.

Yep, it is our motto, but it is true, at Kankakee Area Career Center, we're Preparing Students for Tomorrow.
