Jeff Umphrey, Construction Technology Instructor was delighted to have his former student, Andrew Kelson visit the construction site of KACC's 22nd House.  Mr. Kelson, a 1996 graduate from KACC and Momence High School was a student when one of the homes built in Briarcliff was completed, and in his second year, helped KACC break ground on the first house we built in Eagle Creek.

Since graduating from KACC/Momence, Mr. Kelson has worked in the trades as a plumber/pipefitter. He is currently a member of the Plumbers Local 130 Union, working for Precision Piping.

According to Mr. Kelson, he still uses the "skills that were taught to me all those years ago at KACC Construction Tech.  I have remodeled two of my previous homes and currently am working on renovations on my current home.  The knowledge I acquired while in class with Mr. Umphrey has helped me throughout the years. Traditional college," he continued, "was not for me when I graduated high school.  I was able to find a job in the trades the day after graduation.

His adivice to students today...."Don't ever let someone tell you that a job in the skilled building trades is beneath you.  You will have a skill set that is always needed into the future."

Sage advice Mr. Kelson!

Fun fact - Andrew Kelson is also the Fire Chief for Reddick Community Fire Protection District - Thank you for your service Chief Kelson!
