Medical Terminology-Introduction to Health Occupations Instructor
Amy Wendinger came to KACC midway through first semester in 2019. To Ms. Wendinger, it seemed like one day she was caring for patients at Riverside Medical Center, and the next day, she was teaching Medical Terminology-Introduction to Health Careers at the Kankakee Area Career Center.
This was quite a change, considering Ms. Wendinger worked at Riverside Outpatient Surgery/PACU for the last twelve years.
Prior to teaching, Ms. Wendinger had a wonderful twenty-year career as a Registered Nurse. Her professional experience began at Riverside Medical Center in 1999 where she served as a staff nurse on the Telemetry and Physical Rehabilitation Units.
Ms. Wendinger worked as a Charge Nurse/Staff Nurse in the Outpatient Surgery and Post Anesthesia Care Units. and has considerable experience in an ever-expanding, fast-paced healthcare industry.
All this experience, compassion, and expertise now resides here in KACC's Medical Terminology-Introduction to Health Occupations Program. Ms. Wendinger's ability to relate to and teach students is top-notch. She easily adapts to change and has a wonderful communication style with students, giving them the knowledge base to be successful. She a greatly appreciated member of TeamKACC!
Ms. Wendinger states that she always enjoyed teaching patients about their conditions and now thoroughly enjoys preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals.
On a personal note, Ms. Wendinger is a lifelong resident of Kankakee County. She has a BS in Communication Disorders and Sciences from Eastern Illinois University. She earned her Nursing degree at Kankakee Community College. Ms. Wendinger is married and the mom of two teenagers. She enjoys reading and watching her children play hockey.
