Advocates from the Kankakee chapter of Harbor House visited the Career Center to speak with the Law Enforcement Students. Tracy and Lauren discussed the services Harbor House offers and the needs for the support of the victims of domestic violence. .
Domestic violence cuts across all walks of life. It is a problem of every age, class, race and educational level. A battered person may be any age... male or female...married, separated or living with a companion,and can be from any walk of life such as a doctor, police officer, secretary, homemaker or factory worker.
Tracy and Lauren spoke about the volunteer aspect of the organization and about the variety of donations accepted to help Harbor House support victims and educate the general public about this pervasive problem.This great organization, their staff and volunteers covers both Kankakee and Iroquois counties. They handle over 4000 calls a year just in the Kankakee area. Harbor House really does have an actual house where victims and often their children, can reside on a temporary basis receive the help and support to assist these victims of domestic violence on getting a new start on life, including helping with getting a new job, apartment, etc.
