Turnout Gear - A Perfect Fit for KACC Students
Kankakee Area Career Center was once again the beneficiary of generosity from one of our local fire districts. This time, KACC and Fire-Rescue-EMR Instructor, Ed Leeson thank Aroma Park Fire Protection District, especially Chief Luke Shepherd, for the recent donation of surplus firefighter turnout gear. The donation included 25 bunker coats, 12 sets of bunker pants, 21 sets of fire boots, 5 helmets, and 8 pairs of firefighting gloves. Wow, what a fabulous array of important gear for our program.
As good as a condition as this equipment is, National Fire Protection Association standards require turnout gear older than ten (10) years old must be replaced. The gear donated had outlived its use as interior structural firefighting gear, but will certainly put to good use at KACC.
KACC is in constant need of firefighting gear to outfit the students who enroll in the Fire-Rescue-EMR program. Considering our students in this course receive the same training as all firefighters in Illinois (except actually entering burning buildings) this gear is, shall we say, a perfect fit for our 44 junior and senior students enrolled this year.Mr. Leeson said he cannot thank Chief Shepherd enough for this fabulous donation.
